Leadership Team

Tom Lee, Ph.D., MBA

Founder & CEO

Inspired by family experiences with the healthcare system, Tom founded SA Ignite with a deep belief that the next generation of health IT solutions and tools can bring transformative improvements to the quality, efficiency, and safety of healthcare delivery. He also served as a consultant to the Northwestern University School of Medicine, for which he played an instrumental role in Northwestern's successful bid to establish the Chicago Health IT Regional Extension Center (CHITREC) with funding support from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He has also consulted for Erie Family Health Center, a leading Chicago-area community health network, and the Alliance of Chicago, a pioneering provider of health IT solutions to community health centers nationwide.

Tom was previously Director of Software Product Management at Research In Motion (BlackBerry) overseeing the software portfolio targeting small and medium businesses, including physician practices. He also has a successful track record as a leader and entrepreneur at venture-funded technology startups, including being a general manager and chief technology officer of Enorbus Technologies, a wireless application company funded by Qualcomm Ventures and The Carlyle Group and subsequently acquired by Disney. Tom holds seven U.S. patents garnered as the 20th employee of Symyx Technologies, a corporate R&D and informatics company which executed a successful NASDAQ IPO during Tom's tenure and grew to more than 500 employees worldwide. In addition, Tom has led product strategy, business development, and new product development for U.S. Cellular, the nation's fifth-largest wireless carrier. Tom earned a B.S. with Distinction in physics from Stanford, Ph.D. in physics from UC-Berkeley, where he was a National Science Foundation Fellow, and an MBA with Distinction from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. He enjoys taking family trips and re-learning how to ice skate so he can keep up with his kids.


Beth Houck, MBA

Chief Operating Officer

Beth is responsible for creating and overseeing the systems underlying the company's product and service offerings. Through SA Ignite's relationship with CHITREC, Beth is leveraging her more than 17 years of successful healthcare experience to the design and delivery of EHR Meaningful Use services to over 1000 healthcare providers in the Chicago area.

Prior to her work at SA Ignite, Beth was COO for PatientImpact, a patient experience measurement company utilizing web-based data collection and reporting methods to deliver relevant, actionable information to physician practices and outpatient facilities. PatientImpact, founded in 2004, was acquired in 2009 by Press Ganey, the industry's leading patient experience measurement company. Beth brought her passion for business-building and innovation to past roles in strategy and business development at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She has also led consulting engagements on behalf of Accenture and Navigant Consulting and as owner of her own firm, Fruition Advisors, which focused on company growth strategies. Beth has a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. Beth enjoys seeing Chicago through the eyes of her three kids and is inspired by their creativity every day. If she has time leftover, she also wouldn't mind improving her forehand.


Philip Settimi, M.D.

Dr. Settimi currently serves as Senior Vice President, Global Marketing and Corporate Strategy, and Chief Marketing Officer for Hill-Rom Corporation. Hill-Rom is a leading worldwide manufacturer and provider of medical technologies and related services for the health care industry. Previously, Dr. Settimi served as VP, Global Marketing for the $1.2B Medical Device business unit at Hospira, Inc. Prior, he was Director, Strategy and Business Development and General Manager, Clinical Data Services with GE Healthcare Information Technologies, where he also held various leadership roles in Sales & Marketing, Commercial Strategy and Product Development. He was an Investment and Operating Advisor to the Life Science Private Equity community, and has held positions at Apple Computer, Pfizer and the Health Care Advisory Board. Dr. Settimi studied at the University of Michigan Honors College where he received his bachelors degree in economics, masters degree in biomedical engineering from the School of Graduate Studies, and medical degree from the School of Medicine. He resides in Chicago and enjoys travel, food & wine, cooking and fly-fishing.


Gary Mecklenburg, MBA

Mr. Mecklenburg is an Executive Partner in Waud Capital Partners, working with the firm’s significant investments in health care services. In this role, Mr. Mecklenburg chairs the boards of directors of Regency Hospital Company, Hospitalists Management Group, and Acadia Healthcare; and is a member of the boards of Advanced Reimbursement Management and CarePoint Partners.

Mr. Mecklenburg has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading healthcare executives. In 2006, he retired from Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago after 21 years as president and CEO. His distinguished hospital career began in 1970, and included senior management positions at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals, Stanford University Hospital and Clinics, and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Franciscan Healthcare in Milwaukee. As a national leader, Mr. Mecklenburg served as chairman of the American Hospital Association, the Illinois Hospital Association, the Health Forum, National Alliance for Information Technology, and the Healthcare Research and Development Institute. He has served on the boards of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership. Mr. Mecklenburg is a director of Becton Dickinson and Company and of LHP Hospital Group. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University where he also has served as an Adjunct Professor of Health Industry Management. Mr. Mecklenburg received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago.

Kevin Weinstein, MBA

Kevin currently serves as Chief Marketing Officer for Rise Health, a care support services company for primary care physicians, where he oversees the company's brand, business development and go-to-market execution. Previously, Kevin served as Vice President of Marketing and Sales Operations at Allscripts, a provider of clinical software and information solutions. Prior to Allscripts, Kevin worked for Mercer Management Consulting and was also an original employee at Kettle Partners, an early-stage venture capital fund focused on communication, technology services and entertainment. Before working in the for-profit sector, Kevin was involved in electoral politics, where at various times, he held positions as the finance director, press secretary and field organizer of major federal, state and local campaigns. Kevin received his masters in management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and a bachelor of arts degree in English from Colgate University. A recovering rugby addict, Kevin lives in Chicago with his wife and two daughters.
